Twitter slang in pop culture
One of my new favorite shows on TV is Up All Night on NBC. That’s probably because my wife and I have a 10 week old little boy at home and we are right in the thick of it. The show is always a good laugh.
I caught something on one of the recent episodes that only reinforced my thoughts towards how social media is completely inundating our culture. Reagan and Chris (mom and dad on the show) were walking down the street bantering and made the slightest, almost unnoticeable joke about hashtagging. What struck me was how the joke was written…commonplace, everyday language with no attention drawn to explaining what was just said. The word Twitter wasn’t even used, just “hashtagging.”
Most of you reading this article are already aware of the impact of social media. But let me just reinforce how necessary it is that we, those responsible for communicating the truth, get plugged in to what is evidently here to stay – at least for some time to come. How long will social media as is be the leading trend, not sure. But it’s here now and it’s where people are having conversations everyday.
