Twitter tip: conversation

Featured2, Social Media0 comments

Most churches and organizations use Twitter as a broadcast tool.  And there’s nothing wrong with that practice.  But Twitter can be so much more than a method of broadcasting a message.  It can be a conversation starter.  This should be the ultimate goal of most organizations who desire to be successful.

Instead of tweeting the date and time of your upcoming event and a link for registration, ask a question.  Are you promoting a marriage conference?  Ask the question, “is your marriage on it’s last leg?”  Stir the thoughts of those following your Twitter feed.

Now I do realize that Facebook is a better medium for this type of activity mostly due to threading.  But Twitter can also engage an audience in conversation.  Use “#” hashtags.

Another tip to start conversation and garner support…use your Twitter feed to help promote someone else. Retweet. Are you a church that supports other non-profit faith-based ministries?  Find their Twitter feed and retweet their efforts.

You may be feeling like your Twitter feed is struggling and not gaining new followers.  Take this suggestion and make some very intentional attempts to be more conversational.  Stop broadcasting.  I’d love to hear any success stories from trying this out.
